Garth Bardsley, Head of Video, G/O Media

Garth Bardsley is an award-winning executive who is currently the Head of Video at G/O Media, where he oversees editorial video content for their portfolio of brands, including Quartz, Gizmodo, The Onion, AV Club and more.

Garth began his producing career at the LOGO channel, where he worked with correspondents Rachel Maddow and Richard Hake on The Advocate Newsmagazine and won a second-place award for Excellence in Journalism from the Association of LGBTQ Journalists. During his tenure at MTV News, he was a member of the leadership team that converted the robust newsgathering department to a digital media focus, away from its linear television roots.

Later, as the senior leader for digital video at MTV, Garth partnered with top-name creators for well over a decade, working on franchises with notables like Tyler Oakley, Tana Mongeau, Bretman Rock and many, many more. His team’s reimagining of MTV’s series Cribs for Snapchat was recognized as the highest-rated premiere of a show in the app’s history and received a 2018 Shorty Award. Myrna the Monster, a 14-minute short film he executive produced, was an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival and was sold to MGM. As a consultant, he has led content projects for a diverse collection of brands, from Under Armour to the Metropolitan Opera Guild. The documentary he executive produced, The Cobra Killers, aired on CBC in 2021.

Garth holds a master of fine arts in film from Columbia University. He also holds a bachelor of music in vocal performance from Susquehanna University. He and his teams have received an Emmy, Shortys, Webbys, a Gracie Award and more. He was a voting member of the Television Academy and is a judge for the Webby Awards. He lives in New York City and the Catskills with his husband, Michael, and their dog, Maxon.
