Announcing the 2019 ASME–Yale Publishing Course Scholarship

The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) is pleased to announce the sponsorship of a full-tuition scholarship for the 2019 Yale Publishing Course: Leadership Strategies in Print and Digital Media. The course will be held July 21-26, 2019, at the Yale School of Management (SOM) in New Haven, Connecticut.

The deadline to apply for the ASME scholarship is April 7, 2019. Only ASME members or editors working for them are eligible to receive this full-tuition scholarship. Complete the online application here.

In 2019 the Yale Publishing Course will tackle timely issues facing print and digital media professionals, giving attendees a candid look at lessons learned by industry leaders as well as forward-looking approaches to publishing as a global enterprise.

“ASME has been sponsoring a scholarship at the Yale Publishing Course for nearly a decade,” said Sid Holt, the chief executive of ASME. “During that time, the scholarship recipients have invariably told me how valuable the course was for their professional development and how much they enjoyed themselves. I’m pleased that ASME can again offer its members this opportunity to attend YPC.”

“The Yale Publishing Course has become increasingly focused on providing cutting-edge research and practical experience to help industry professionals hone their leadership skills,” said the director of the course, Tina C. Weiner. “Given the constant disruption in the media industry, it is more important than ever to take time away from one's daily routine and consider—from a broader perspective—the challenges and opportunities facing us today.”

Now in its 10th year, the Yale Publishing Course was founded as a seminar for middle- and senior-level professionals to gain leadership skills for today’s increasingly global and digital publishing world. Since joining the Yale School of Management in 2017, the Yale Publishing Course has flourished as an executive education program for publishing professionals to develop as managers and leaders.

The new curriculum includes topics like building effective teams, managerial decision making and innovation as taught by the distinguished faculty of the Yale School of Management. The SOM sessions are coupled with presentations by a carefully selected roster of industry experts who provide examples of their own leadership style while discussing critical industry challenges and opportunities.

Past ASME YPC scholarship winners include Ellis Jones (VICE Magazine), Dennis Lewon (Backpacker), Amy Nordrum (IEEE Spectrum), Jennifer Owens (HealthyWomen.org) and Ann Taylor Pittman (Cooking Light).

Applications for the 2019 Leadership Strategies in Print and Digital Media program, running July 21-26, 2019, are now being accepted.

The Yale Publishing Course also holds a program on Leadership Strategies in Book Publishing, held July 28-August 2, 2019.
