NEW YORK MAGAZINE'S HURRICANE SANDY COVER IS ASME'S COVER OF THE YEARFinalist Covers Include TIME’s Breastfeeding Mom and Harper’s Bazaar’s “Gwyneth Revealed”“Best Obama” Cover Goes to Bloomberg BusinessweekNEW YORK, NY (May 1, 2013)—The cover of the November 12, 2012, issue of New York Magazine depicting Hurricane Sandy was chosen by magazine editors as "Cover of the Year" in the seventh annual ASME Best Cover Contest, which was open to all consumer magazines published in calendar year 2012. The announcement was made today by Lucy Danziger, ASME President, and Editor-in-Chief of SELF, at the ASME Annual Meeting in New York City. ASME Best Cover Contest 2013 Winners and Finalists Cover of the Year Winner: New York, November 12, 2013: “The City and the Storm” Shot on the Wednesday evening after Hurricane Sandy hit, Iwan Baan’s photograph of Manhattan, half aglow and half dark, captured the larger story of a powerful city rendered powerless. A true viral phenomenon, the image became an instant icon of the event—magazine cover that many New Yorkers have saved for posterity. In fact, a poster version was offered for sale by the Museum of Modern Art.
