WINNER New York Times Opinion Kathleen Kingsbury, Opinion Editor Kate Elazegui, Creative Director “America Needs to Remember How to Forget,” illustrations by Deanne Cheuk, June 15 at nytimes.com/opinion and June 16 print edition
A subtle approach to illustrating a news event that was anything but made "America Needs to Remember How to Forget" stand out. The brilliant use of negative space framed by skillfully drawn scenes from January 6, 2020, creates a composition with immediate impact. In sum, a haunting piece of work that accurately reflects the story it illustrates.
