ASME ANNOUNCES 2026-2027 BOARD OF DIRECTORSAlison Overholt reelected president; Allure’s Jessica Cruel joins board NEW YORK (June 15, 2026)—The American Society of Magazine Editors today announced the results of its 2026 election. Alison Overholt, Founder, Good People LLC, and Professor, Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, was reelected president of ASME. As president, Overholt will continue to oversee the administration and presentation of the National Magazine Awards, which are sponsored by ASME in association with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, until the end of her term in 2027. Overholt was the first woman to run a major American sports magazine when she was named editor in chief of ESPN The Magazine. She later became general manager of Oprah Daily before launching Good People LLC, a creative content strategy and production company. Joining Overholt as ASME officers are Nikhil Swaminathan, CEO of Grist, reelected vice president; Julia Turner, Cofounder and Editor in Chief of L.A. Material, reelected treasurer; and Stephanie Mehta, CEO and Chief Content Officer of Mansueto Ventures, reelected secretary. Also elected as a member of the ASME Board of Directors was Jessica Cruel, Editor in Chief of Allure. Under Cruel’s leadership, Allure was nominated this year for the first time in the history of the publication for the National Magazine Award for General Excellence in the Service and Lifestyle category. The ASME Board of Directors consists of 16 members, including the four officers. Board members serve two-year terms and are eligible for reelection to a second term. Officers serve one-year terms and are eligible for reelection to a second term. The immediate past president serves ex officio. Board members now serving their second two-year terms are Richard Dorment, Editorial Director, Men’s Health and Women’s Health; Sid Evans, Editor in Chief, Southern Living; and Ivylise Simones, Creative Director, Slate. Simones is the first creative director to serve on the ASME board. Board members now serving their first two-year terms are Rick Berke, Cofounder and Executive Editor, STAT; Katie Drummond, Global Editorial Director, WIRED; Jeffrey Goldberg, Editor in Chief, The Atlantic; Nathan Lump, Senior Vice President and Editor in Chief, National Geographic; Ross McCammon, Editor in Chief, Texas Monthly; Nikki Ogunnaike, Editor in Chief, Marie Claire; and Swati Sharma, Editor in Chief, Vox. The immediate past president of ASME, Amanda Kludt, Senior Editor, Newsroom Projects and Initiatives, The New York Times, is currently on leave from the board.
