Dance Media is looking for an editor in chief for Dance Magazine. The Dance Magazine eic is part of Dance Media’s senior leadership.

Dance Magazine is Dance Media’s flagship brand, inspiring and informing the dance field for more than 90 years. Through its robust ongoing digital transformation, including website, social channels, live and virtual events, as well as its print publication and more, the brand reaches students, professionals and dance lovers around the world. Written by accomplished journalists and active dancers, Dance Magazine tells the stories behind today’s most exciting artists and gives readers essential information on how the industry is evolving and growing.

  • Shape all content for Dance Magazine
  • Consult on marketing materials — copy, creative, execution, development
  • Assign and edit feature stories, packages, profiles and service pieces, working closely with freelance writers and the DM team to brainstorm story ideas
  • Top edit all stories edited by other editors on the DM team
  • Define web strategy for DM, overseeing all social media, newsletters and other products on all platforms
  • Take on writing assignments as needed 
  • Collaborate with art department on photo shoots
  • Lead regular meetings to discuss content planning, concepts and events
  • Coordinate and host virtual events 
  • Spearhead programming for the annual Dance Magazine Awards and chair the selection committee
  • Represent the brand at industry events
  • Work closely with commercial team on product development and execution

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment 

The successful candidate will be a self-starter and self-manager, take initiative and possess leadership skills. They will be well-organized, know what makes for a good narrative, love a beautifully written sentence, and ready to jump in and immediately contribute to our deadline-driven team atmosphere. This is a remote/WFH position with some travel for event purposes. Salary up to 70k, commensurate with experience.
