Associate News Editor, Verywell

About Your Role:

Dotdash is seeking an Associate News Editor to help us develop and grow a news platform on Verywell Health. We are looking for someone with strong research skills who can help select, cover, and produce stories. Since our news mission is to use our position as a leading health site to add real value to every story we report on, you’re encouraged to think both creatively and critically about what we cover.

About Your Contributions:

  • Research daily trending health news, as well as longer-lead news stories to assign in advance
  • Track competitive landscape to identify trends and opportunities
  • Work with senior editor to assign the appropriate stories to freelance writers
  • Assist on evergreen projects and articles as needed
  • Report and write stories as needed each week
  • Work with social and email teams to disseminate stories
  • Help build out an editorial calendar
  • Help maintain PR connections for story and sourcing purposes
  • Help review writing samples of potential contributors
  • Add creative visual assets to articles
About You:

  • 1-2+ years experience developing and curating digital content for web
  • Proven experience in coordinating interviews and reporting your own stories
  • Knack for finding facts. You know how to dig out primary sources
  • Detail-oriented and deadline-focused with solid proofreading skills
  • Ability to clearly and succinctly translate medical jargon and academic speak to a lay audience
  • Experience posting or crafting copy for a brand’s social media
  • Operating experience with web analytics tools
  • Background in health, science, or wellness editorial content preferred
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in journalism or communications a major plus
  • Proactive, flexible, and enthusiastic team player—this is an ever-changing, fun, and collaborative environment!
