Job Overview

Texas Monthly is looking for a photo assistant to aid in producing visual solutions for editorial stories. This is a contract position, with the potential to evolve into a full-time role. This position is based in Austin, Texas.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Update and maintain archival story art and layout (primary focus for 6+ months)
  • Assist in photo research
  • Assign photography for Texasmonthly.com
  • Assist in propping, styling, and location scouting for photo shoots
  • Retouch and resize images for print and web
  • Perform general QA duties and styling for Texasmonthly.com
  • Assist in managing contracts, w-9s, and invoices
  • Assist in video editing

 Successful candidates possess the following skills/abilities:

  • Keen eye for photography and illustration
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to multitask as well as work under pressure and maintain a calm attitude
  • In-depth knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
  • Proficiency in other Adobe CS programs
  • Proficiency in WordPress
  • InCopy, K4, HTML, and Sketch experience are a plus

Education/Experience: 

  • BA/BFA in photography, visual arts, or related field, with 2+ years of relevant work experience
